Nicola Weston (Jangle) Artis Creative Learning Specialist

I have over 10 year’s experience as a Theatre Maker, Actor, Performer and Facilitator. As a Community Artist I have facilitated Drama based workshops in Schools, Care Homes, Nurseries, Youth Centres and Specialist Performing Arts Academies. I have a particular interest in storytelling and made autobiographical performance the focus of my MA study. I also play the ukulele and am a trained clown.  I’m currently working towards a PhD which focuses on how children with PMLD experience participatory performing arts sessions.

I am a final year candidate with an interest in conducting research for and with marginalised communities. My current work focuses on theatre practice with adults who have profound and multiple learning disabilities. In addition to my own doctoral research, I am also currently part of a team investigating the lived experience of parents of learning-disabled children and young people in relation to the development of wellbeing services for this community. In addition to this I am working on a chapter which will be contributed to an anthology of practice-based research due for publication in 2025.

My favourite thing about working with children and young people is the sense of curiosity and exploration they bring to the learning environment, no two days are ever the same! The performing arts are the most fantastic tool for building confidence and I find it a privilege to be able to provide children with the opportunity to grow and create through my work as a Creative learning specialist.
