Prep Pupils Create Indian Folk Art

During the Cultural Celebration Week at Pipers Corner School this June, prep pupils created Madhubani Art, an ancient and traditional art form originating from the Mithila region of India.
Over a period of two days, Harsha Basu demonstrated the key techniques and shared her understanding of this beautiful art form, including its cultural origins involving handmade natural art supplies. Madhubani Art is not only wonderful to make; it encourages curiosity, self-sufficiency, and supports wellbeing. Pupils explored working on handmade paper and were encouraged to think about the traditional tools where twigs were brushes, garden-find paints and walls/ floor canvas.
By the time day-two ended, we were able to put together a collaborative tree of life with simple motifs — fish, flowers and peacocks — created by children. The final artwork will be displayed at the school’s open day.
